Spring 2011 Rally

Wayne County Fairgrounds, Belleville, MI

Spring has finally arrived in Michigan, albeit a bit damp, but still, I think we are all happy to see the snow finally melted.

Most of us arrived on Wednesday and were glad to see each other after a long, cold winter.   We were introduced to our newest four-legged member, Micky, John Verellen’s pug puppy.   Micky was very happy to see everyone and enjoyed all the attention. We carpooled to a local Mexican restaurant for a tasty meal as we dodged the raindrops. Our hosts were Ron and Betty Hall with co-hosts Jerry and Joanne Hoogstra. Thanks again for a job well done.

The start of the rally saw on and off showers and cloudy days, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the group.   Thursday evening was a sloppy joe supper provided by our hosts with a wide variety of desserts from the group.   Needless to say, there was no lack of sweets during this rally!!   As usual after supper we enjoyed a nice campfire.   Thanks goes to the “Bonfire Police” (aka JR Ralston) for the great efforts at keeping the fire going even under adverse conditions.   Unfortunately, the warm campfire did not help in holding off the inevitable mosquitoes and due to the dampness; they were having a feeding frenzy on some of us.

Friday morning came with some sun mixed with clouds but for the most part, it wasn’t a bad day. We started with a breakfast of coffee, rolls and muffins and then moved on to our craft project, painting wooden bird houses.   The ladies did a fine job, and some of them are very good artists.   There was a nice variety of colors and patterns.   The men were “invited” to try their hands at the painting, but we couldn’t get a single one to participate.   After some free time, we gathered again for a pot luck supper.   It’s been said before, but begs being mentioned again, our group of ladies are wonderful cooks and there was no excuse for anyone leaving supper hungry.   Again, a nice fire awaited the group after some enjoyed a game of nickel bingo. I’m not sure who came out the winner, but I heard a rumor it was Jerry Hoogstra.   We shared the campground with a group of Model T owners from the US and Canada who gathered for their own rally.   The group is called the Casual T’s.   We saw several vehicles coming and going.   All of them were in great shape.

Saturday morning arrived with some fog in the early morning, but by mid-morning it was a beautiful day.   Warm and sunny!!   We ladies also enjoyed the traditional pancake supper prepared by the men with sausage.   It wasn’t enough though, and the ladies didn’t win in the game of Lawn Chair Baseball.   Men, don’t sit on your laurels, because I’m sure in the fall the ladies will be ready to retake the winners title. Our hosts kept us well fed with a hot dog lunch and sides of potato salad, chips and pickles.   Just what the doctor ordered!!   Saturday supper of lasagna and garlic bread, also provided by our hosts, with sides from our ladies was followed by a quiz to test our knowledge of State Flowers.   Congrats to Dixie Dawe who knew the most, and didn’t even have to Google any of them. Saturday evening saw a storm roll in, but there was a hardy group who just had to try a campfire, even if it meant sitting around it with their umbrellas.   The rain finally got the best of them and it was an early night for most.

Sunday morning we gathered for coffee and sweets with beautiful sunshine streaming in the windows.   Goodbyes were said and well wishes given to Bob & Deb Fair and Ken & Shirley Mitchell.   Both couples are leaving in June for long trips to Alaska.   Our fall rally should be interesting with stories and pictures.   Maybe we can talk them into doing a travelogue for the group.

Pull Tabs

We will be continuing with the collection of the pull tabs.

Fall Rally 2011

Our Fall 2011 rally will be held September 22-25, 2011 at KC Campground, 14048 Sherman Rd., Milan, MI. Our hosts will be Bob & Betsy Stevens. We will have 30 AMP electric, water and a dump. Reminder: if you have a water filter you should bring it. This campground has a water filtration system for any sulpher; however, it tends to have some iron in it. Early arrivals are welcome. The theme hasn’t been formally decided but we are leaning toward “Tastes of the Season”.   Hope to see you all there.

Spring Rally 2012

Our “Winter Texans” have agreed to host the Spring 2012 rally.   The dates are May 16-20, 2012 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, Belleville, MI.   The theme is Tex-Mex so bring your cowboy hats and boots and get ready for some good times.   I hear rumors that there will be dance lessons.   That should be interesting.

Reminders

Please keep in mind that our $5.00 yearly dues are payable in the Spring of each year. Payment of the dues keeps you on the current directory and mailing list. If you will were unable to attend the Spring rally, you can forward your payment to Toni Dobies, 708 Tewksbury Court, Rochester Hills, MI 48307, or see her at the Fall Rally.
