The 2009 Rocky Mountain Gulfstreamers fall gathering met Thursday, Sept. 17th to Sunday, Sept. 20th at the Alamosa, Colorado KOA - in the beautiful San Luis Valley with wonderful weather at the foot of 14er Mt. Blanca. We had an enthusiastic group hosted by Roy and Lynn Poole of Arvada, CO. It was so well organized with a great variety of activities, including but not limited to angling the local rivers, the Rio Grand scenic Railway trip with the encore performance of the Mountain music concert by Michael Martin Murphey, a visit to the great Sand Dunes National Park, the historic Guadalupe parish church built in 1857 (incl. the stations of the cross), white elephant gift exchange, a BBQ, astronomy , a group meal at the SVL Brewing Co, photo ops, etc. to name a few. And, our dogs shared in many of the events too. Roy started a "bulletin Board" that is posted at the site of our rigs for announcements and suggested activities during the rally. Our next rally will be in May 2010 hosted by Larry and Claudette Poffhoff. Also distributed at the rally were our newly designed RMGS polo shirts (a first for our club).
They look great ! Claudette headed-up that project.
We hope to meet for a mid-winter gathering around Christmas and New Years.
We are a growing group inviting any and all Gulfstreamers to join us. Contact Dave Borreson, Pres.,(303-218-5452) or Jan Moore, Secretary (303-460-9357). #6174
The meadow where the Michael Martin Murphy Concert in the Rockies was held, is truly unique. Accessible ONLY by railroad (even Michael Martin Murphy and his band traveled aboard), it is completely "green," using wind and solar power. Gulf Streamers boarded the train in Alamosa, made up of 50's era coaches and pullmans, and pulled by #18, a steam engine whose life included service on the Grand Canyon Scenic Railroad. Today, it's part of the San Luis and Rio Grande Scenic railway and serves passengers and freight between the San Luis Valley and La Veta, Colorado.
Picture below features, Left to right, seated, Gulf Streamers Debra Hughes, Buddy Hughes, Lee Roark, Dee Roark, and Lynn Poole (with black western hat), in the meadow near La Veta Pass, CO, enjoying the Michael Martin Murphy Concert in the Rockies. The show was taped for "America's Heartland" on PBS, but we don't know when it will air.
